Colours, Contours and Contrasts

The tranquil beaches along the Konkan Coast are great holiday destinations. The temple town of Gokarna in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka is an important pilgrim center and the beaches to its south are popular among tourists from India and abroad. The famed Om Beach, the less known Kudle Beach, the placid Half Moon and the pristine Paradise beaches are four scenic strips of sand sandwiched between the hills.

With simple accommodation and tasty food, it is a pleasure to stay on the crescent shaped Kudle Beach, which is quite clean. Kudle is a good choice for those who are looking to get away from the crowd.

The aerial views of the diverse landscape from the vista points in the hills are spectacular. The shimmering water, the lanky trees and the rocky cliffs seem to be in perfect harmony. This is Kudle Beach as seen from the top.

The Half Moon and Paradise beaches are remote beaches which are not accessible by road. Apart from an occasional group of tourists, these picturesque beaches are pretty much deserted. For the adventurous, these clean beaches are good camping sites.

On a clear day the Kudle Beach looks spectacular during sunset. As the sun ebbs into oblivion, its golden hues cast a spell over the shoreline.

Om Beach gets its name because of its shape which resembles the Hindu symbol. It is the largest of the four beaches and is the tourist hub. Shacks and cafes line the fringe of the beach. Colours, contours and contrasts are sure to strike the visitor to Om.
